Dear friends in Italy, France and Germany,
unfortunately, we have to let you know the sad news that for the first time ever, Don will have to cancel a European signing tour, and very last minute at that. His wife's health has been getting worse and worse very quickly recently (she's been having Alzheimer's for a few years now, but was recently diagnosed with stage four terminal cancer in addition to that), and while he made every effort to still be able to come and see you, it turned out over the weekend that it just doesn't work out this time as he won't be able to travel and leave his wife alone.
We know that this will hit many of you hard as you might have already booked hotels, train rides or flights just to see him, and we know that many of these costs will not be refundable.  We are truly very sorry about this situation and were not expecting this news, but we ask for your kind understanding in these difficult times. If you've been following Don for a while, you'll know that he's never canceled ANY European tour in more than thirty years (and even in the US, he only canceled one single show when he himself was sick) and is always so much looking forward to meeting every single one of you. And he wouldn't cancel this time either if there was any possibility at all for him to come. Believe us that he feels very bad about disappointing you and is really devastated.
Please don't get mad at our friends from the signing venues like Palermo Comic Con, La Dimension Fantastique, Alfa BD and Comic Combo. They were as suprised by this as you and we were, and there's nothing they could have done to prevent this or inform you earlier as this all happened just this weekend while we were already packing and preparing the tour start.
We promise we'll make up for the canceled tour dates once Don is able to travel again, whenever that might be.

Cari amici in Italia, Francia e Germania,
purtroppo dobbiamo darvi la triste notizia che, per la prima volta in assoluto, Don dovrà annullare un tour europeo di autografi, e all'ultimo minuto. La salute di sua moglie sta peggiorando sempre più rapidamente ultimamente (soffre di Alzheimer da alcuni anni, ma le è stato recentemente diagnosticato anche un cancro terminale al quarto stadio), e nonostante abbia fatto ogni sforzo per poter venire a trovarvi, nel fine settimana si è scoperto che questa volta non ce la farà, perché non potrà viaggiare e lasciare sua moglie da sola.
Sappiamo che questo colpirà duramente molti di voi, dato che potreste aver già prenotato hotel, treni o voli solo per vederlo, e sappiamo che molte di queste spese non saranno rimborsabili. Siamo davvero dispiaciuti per questa situazione e non ci aspettavamo questa notizia, ma chiediamo la vostra comprensione in questi tempi difficili. Se seguite Don da un po', saprete che non ha mai cancellato NESSUN tour europeo in più di trent'anni (e anche negli Stati Uniti, ha cancellato solo un singolo concerto perché lui stesso era malato) e non vede l'ora di incontrare ognuno di voi. E non cancellerebbe nemmeno questa volta se ci fosse anche solo una possibilità per lui di venire. Credeteci, si sente molto dispiaciuto per avervi deluso ed è davvero devastato.

Per favore, non arrabbiatevi con i nostri amici dei luoghi in cui si sono svolte le sessioni di autografi come Palermo Comic Con, La Dimension Fantastique, Alfa BD e Comic Combo. Sono rimasti sorpresi da questo quanto voi e noi, e non avrebbero potuto fare nulla per impedirlo o informarvi prima, visto che è successo proprio questo fine settimana, mentre stavamo già preparando i bagagli e la partenza del tour.
Promettiamo che recupereremo le date del tour cancellate non appena Don potrà tornare a viaggiare, qualunque sia la data.
Grazie mille e ancora una volta, le nostre più sincere scuse!
