I may not be sending replies but I *AM* reading your messages every day. Paolo copied my message explaining my absence from my dearest Papersera friends, so I hope that made some sense.

But now I need to send a reply of GRAZIE to all the well-wishers for my 60th Birthday!!! It's friends like you all that make me still feel like I'm 10 or 20 years old... seriously, I do! I think my age will catch up to me suddenly and I'll either get VASTLY FAT like a typical American or simply drop dead. But now, I think thanks to my friends in ITALIA (and the rest of Europe) I still feel better than I did when I was 25, so that has to be good!

I WILL RETURN. As soon as the work on my 10 hectare nature preserve allows me to!

Posso non rispondere ma *STO* leggendo i vostri messaggi ogni giorno. Paolo ha copiato il mio messaggio che spiega la mia assenza dai miei carissimi amici del Papersera, quindi spero che sia servito a chiarire [il perchè].

Ma ora devo rispondere con un GRAZIE a tutti i bene auguranti per ilmio 60esimo compleanno!!! Sono gli amici come tutti voi che mi fanno ancora sentire come se avessi 10 o 20 anni... davvero! Credo che la mia età si farà sentire all'improvviso e diventerò o MOLTO GRASSO come l'americano medio o semplicemente morto stecchito*. Ma adesso credo che grazie ai miei amici in ITALIA (e nel resto d'Europa) mi sento ancora meglio di come stavo quando avevo 25 anni, quindi ciò deve essere buono!

RITORNERO'. Appena il lavoro della mia riserva naturale di 10 ettari me lo permetterà!

Don, I thought you might find this interesting: in this week's issue of the Italian magazine "Topolino" a new version of the Duck family tree was printed.

The family tree is basically the same as yours, and the drawings are clearly inspired (if not copied) from yours. What is different is the layout: your tree is REALLY a tree, with the founder of the family (the root) in the lower part of the drawing and the youngest members (the leaves) on top; this tree is more like a "traditional" family tree, with the ancestors on top and the descendants at the bottom.

The drawings are also different, the characters are "squared" (they look like videogame characters) in accordance with the "general outlook" of the magazine (many readers, included me, don't like them: the whole magazine is full of these little "avatars").

Don, ho pensato che questo potesse interessarti: nel numero di questa settimana di "Topolino" è stata stampata una nuova versione dell'albero genealogico dei Paperi.

L'albero è sostanzialmente lo stesso del tuo, e i disegni sono chiaramente ispirati (se non copiati) dai tuoi.
Quello che cambia è il layout: il tuo albero è DAVVERO un albero, con il fondatore della famiglia (la radice) in basso, e i più giovani (le foglie) in alto; questo albero è più come un "tradizionale" albero genealogico, con gli antenati in alto e i discendenti in basso.

Anche i disegni sono diversi, i personaggi sono "squadrati" (sembrano personaggi di videogiochi) in accordo con l'aspetto generale della rivista (molti lettori, me inclusa, non li apprezzano: l'intera rivista è piena di questi piccoli "avatar").

Io non compro Topolino da secoli, ma... adesso disegnano i personaggi così, come le faccine sceme dei cellulari (almeno di quelli vecchi, i nuovi non so, io ne ho uno da 30 franchi )?
Ma anche nelle storie son così, con le teste quadrate?

I haven't bought Topolino magazine for ages, but... do they draw characters that way, like the silly emoticons in a cellphone (or in an old cell, I don't know about the new ones, I got a 30 Swissfranc cell )?

No,  i personaggi squadrati sono solo negli articoli, nel sommario eccetera. Le storie sono disegnate normalmente (ogni autore con il suo stile abituale)
No, these "square" characters appear only in the articles, in the summary etc. The stories are drawn in the usual way (each author with their usual style)

Well, it's about time I came back!!!
The extra-busy Summer has slacked off... it was 40 degrees Celcius here 4 days ago. Then 3 days ago the effects from a hurricane that came north from the Gulf of Mexico took over, and the temperature became dark and drizzly and 13 degrees C!!! What a change! So instead of being out doing more renovations on my nature preserve, I am shut in the house getting caught up on old e-mails and FINALLY reestablishing a presence HERE.

Hopefully I will not disappear again, at least until next Spring rolls around.

On the other hand, I will be doing a lot of travelling this Fall to four different book fairs/comic festivals in Europe. You can see the schedule over on that Don Rosa Facebook page that someone (not me!) operates at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Don-Rosa/110293199025597
But no trips back to Italia. At least not this Fall.

HOWEVER -- it looks like I might be back at Torino Comics in 2012. I'll keep you informed as to how that develops. I may not make another mini-tour around NorthWest Italia visiting friends (and being surprised by the Happiest Dinner of My Life), but I'll hope to see ALL of you (a few of you?) in Torino.
